PUBLIC HEARING FOR ORDINANCE 177 EXTENDED TO SPECIAL COUNCIL MTG ON 1/23/19 AT 2:00 PM
A special City Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm to continue the public hearing on Ordinance No. 177. Approval of the ordinance will align Elephant Butte elections to the County’s election cycle moving voting to November rather than March and saving the City most of the costs needed to run its election. This will affect the term length of the current mayor and council members. With the approval, one of the following two options must also be approved:
Option 1: Terms that would complete March 2020 will complete December 2019 instead. New terms will commence January 1, 2020.
Option 2: Terms that would complete March 2020 will extend to December 2021. New terms will commence January 2022.
The public hearing began at the January 16 Council Meeting and was extended to allow more time for public input.
