Hi Am Going To Elephant Butte And Was Wondering Where I Could Find Some Fire Wood For Sale In Town???
Alan Briley, City Manager: There are several local establishments that have firewood.
I HOPE PEOPLE READ THIS, AS, ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE ONLY AREAS IN THE STATE THAT STILL ALLOWS FIRES WHILE CAMPING. AS LONG AS YOU ARE WITHIN 50 FEET OF THE LAKE SHORE - YOU CAN HAVE A CAMPFIRE!!!
THEY ARE STILL PLANNING ON A LARGE FIREWORK DISPLAY OVER THE LAKE ON JULY 6TH - SO COME DOWN AND BUY SOME FIREWOOD AND MAKE IT A GREAT HOLIDAY.

I have a 6month old puppy with his rabies vaccines. Can we take him to the lake with us or must he be fixed first? Someone told me if he is not fixed I will be fined! We have not yet taken him to the vet to get done.
Alan Briley, City Manager: The City does not regulate the things going on at the lake. If you are asking about the City of Elephant Butte, no nothing like that is required. The lake and its rules and regulations are governed by NM State Parks. Their phone number is 575-744-5421. Have fun with your puppy!

Hi! My grandmother was born in Elephant Butte - her father was a railroad mechanic working on the dam when she was born in 1914. Do you know if birth records were kept from the camp? I know they had a rudimentary hospital there... Thanks!
Alan Briley, City Manager: Good question. The official designation of "City" of Elephant Butte came in 1998. Before that, Butte City or Elephant Butte, had several names and communities and were all county subdivisions. I will forward your question to our friends at the County and see if they might have some information.

Hope all is going well for you. Nice web-page/contact!!!
Wanted to ask how the lake is... I haven't been there in years, but have been thinking about it... Looks like the water is down quite a bit.
Alan Briley, City Manager: Hi LeeAnn - hope retirement is treating you well.... The Lake is still here. We are getting negative press from some of the TV stations and Newspapers saying it is a mud hole and there is nothing but rocks, but it is not true. There is still plenty of lake and plenty of beach, a very good combination. And fishing has been fantastic - we caught over 30 over the memorial day weekend. Come and see us.
